World Water Day
Samaritan's Purse Hong Kong

After the China's May 12 earthquake, we shipped and installed 12 high-capacity water filtration units in the quake zone.

As we take part in this yearly observance on March 22, Samaritan’s Purse remembers the 1.1 billion people without access to clean, safe drinking water. That’s one in every six of us.

We hope you will, too. By simply giving the gift of clean water, you can bring lasting change to communities in the developing world.

Providing and Protecting Clean Water

The work of Samaritan’s Purse spans from the high plains of Bolivia to the rice paddies of Cambodia, and includes freshwater wells and filters that remove contaminants from untreated water sources.

When disasters strike around the world, our teams quickly install high-capacity community filters to prevent further causalities.

Some of our water projects are as simple as fencing springs in placeslike Vietnam to keep animals from contaminating freshwater springs. Others are more specialized, like our work in Iraq, where Samaritan’s Purse is installing a water system in a medical facility. After the China's May 12 earthquake, we shipped and installed 12 high-capacity water filtration units in the quake zone. We also trained community members to operate and maintain them and supplied manuals translated to Chinese.

Expanding Impact

Clean water doesn’t only benefit an individual or family. It has broad implications—a ripple effect that spans communities and regions.

Nations are strengthened when lives are spared from deadly waterborne diseases like dysentery, cholera, typhoid, and meningitis. Populations become more educated when children no longer have to spend their days fetching water and can enroll in school. Communities thrive when families rise above poverty, because they no longer spend their meager funds purchasing a few gallons of clean water.

When we partner with a local church, it earns a hearing of the Gospel and thousands of people are introduced to God’s plan of salvation.
