This is my first time I have been to Sichuan to participate in the OCC Shoebox Gift Distribution. For these two years, it had already been delightful for me to imagine the scenes of children receiving our gifts while my family and I were preparing the gifts. So you can tell how thankful I was that God allowed me to join this Sichuan distribution trip in person! Altogether we had 9 people in 3 small teams going to Xichong, Guang’an and Mianzhu for distribution, I followed my pastor with another sister in church as one group to Xichong. We had to cross over mountain after mountain and pass innumerable winding paths before we could reach 3 of the churches in Xichong to send out gift boxes to the local “left-behind children” – the children whose parents have gone to the urban cities for work leaving them behind to live in the villages. Every place we went to, we witnessed each child carrying his / her gift box excitedly, giving thanks to Jesus and unpacking the gifts. They all showed gratification on their faces.... It was in those moments when I could deeply feel the ubiquity of God’s love. Behind each gift there reveals a message – it was through the love of Jesus Christ that children in Hong Kong were inspired to care for the needy kids in Sichuan. They all knew that these gifts came from the loving care far away, and above all, God loves every one of them. This trip enabled me to experience profoundly that it is more blessed to give than to receive! May all the glory and praise be to our Heavenly Father! Emily Li Wan Chai Baptist Church
